Middlesex

I just finished reading this book a couple of days ago. Yes, it's the latest Oprah book. This year I've been making a big effort to take books out of the library instead of buying them all the time in an attempt to save at least some money. And it's been working out nicely...I put the books I want to read on hold at the library, pick them up, read them, return them. What's interesting about this system is that I'm reading stuff that I wouldn't necessarily pick up at the bookstore. I sometimes pass books in the bookstore, pick them up, read the back, say "Nah" for some reason and keep moving. But the library allows me to try these books out even if I'm not sure about them because they are free. Such is the case with Middlesex. I'm certain I've thumbed through it once or twice in the bookstore, but for one reason or another, never picked it up. But reading it was such an enjoyable experience, I'm so glad I did pick it up.

The language is gorgeous, the narrartor is enjoyable to follow around and the story is definetely interesting. If pressed for a one sentence description, you'd have to say that the story was about a hermaphrodite, a "boy" who was born with undescended testicles and raised as a girl, but the book is about so much more than that. The narrarator traces her condition back three generations, using the mixing of genes to tell the stories of her grandparents and parents....it's genius. Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed spending time in this novel.

Ah, baseball

Having Eric back in town for a couple of weeks is a great thing...not only because we're happy to see him but because it gets us off our asses to do fun things that we sort of mean to do, but don't always get around to. So last night we made it to the ballgame, NY Mets vs. San Diego Padres. What we witnessed was the equivalent of a bunch of five-year olds playing wiffle ball - the Mets did more stupid things last night than I've seen on a ballfield in a long time. But all the craziness did make for an entertaining game...especially the near rally at the end, when the Mets almost (what else is new) pulled it out.

But Jose Reyes set a new franchise record for stolen bases. Texas beat Baltimore (in their very own Camden Yards) by a whopping 27 runs, 30-3. We laughed when we realized they were playing a double header and Baltimore had to start all over again...

Anyway, so here's a picture of me and Matt way up in the stands...let's do another ballgame soon!

I Know, I know

It's been forever since I last posted. I know. And I am sorry, my seven faithful blog readers, truly sorry. But a lot has happened to me in the past couple of months...as most of you know - I got a new job! I am now working for ALM - American Lawyer Media - and I do marketing for the job board - lawjobs.com. Here's the logo. You should all check it out and boost our traffic numbers. :-)

Anyway, just wanted to say that I didn't forget about the blog and hope to be posting more regularly from now on.
